Although plenty of hard work goes into preparing your cat for the show ring, this should also be lots of fun. And the thrill of having her shown and win a ribbon makes it all worthwhile. All cats must be healthy and free from ticks, lice, ringworm, fleas and any other parasites in order to be shown.
If your cat has been exposed to a contagious disease within 21 days of the show, then she is not eligible to be shown. You must also ensure that she is current on her vaccinations, and it is sometimes helpful to give the show cat more frequent booster shots, but check this with your veterinarian.
Show in the United States of America no longer demand a veterinary inspection of your cat before she is admitted to the show hall, but shows held in other countries do, each cat is examined by a veterinarian and certifies free of disease and other external parasites. Every association in every country will have different rules for entering a cat in a show. However, to be eligible for showing, most associations require that all cats over the age of eight months are registered.
Generally, you must enter your cat in a show at least four weeks in advance. Fill out an entry form obtained from the entry clerk and send it back with the fee. Some clubs will accept entries the week before the show, but it is best to enter early, as most shows have a limit on the number of cats they will accept.
